Italy has 13 national holidays in 2027, counting Easter Sunday. Compared with the years before 2026 there is one more, 4 October, St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy, introduced by Law 151 of 2025. The fixed dates are New Year's Day, Epiphany, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, Ferragosto, 4 October, All Saints' Day, the Immaculate Conception, Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day; the movable ones are Easter Sunday, 28 March 2027, and Easter Monday the day after. Only 7 holidays fall between Monday and Friday: New Year's Day (1 January, Friday), Epiphany (6 January, Wednesday), Easter Monday (Pasquetta) (29 March, Monday), Republic Day (2 June, Wednesday), St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy (4 October, Monday), All Saints' Day (1 November, Monday), Immaculate Conception (8 December, Wednesday). The other 5, namely 25 April, 1 May, Ferragosto, Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day, land on a Saturday or Sunday and are not moved. That leaves 254 working days from Monday to Friday. On top comes the patron saint's day, in your town only.

The 2027 holidays at a glance

The table compares the 2027 holidays with the year before and the year after. Fixed dates only change their weekday; Easter and Easter Monday move every year, and in 2027 they come very early, at the end of March.

Where the list comes from

Italian holidays are set out in article 2 of Law 260 of 1949. That text still lists feasts no longer observed: Law 54 of 1977 removed the civil effect of Epiphany, St Joseph, Ascension, Corpus Christi, Saints Peter and Paul, 2 June and 4 November, to add working days. Some came back: Epiphany with Presidential Decree 792 of 1985, 2 June with Law 336 of 2000, and since 2026 4 October with Law 151 of 2025. 4 November remains a day of commemoration, not a holiday.

25 April, 1 May and 2 June are the civil holidays: the law treats them like the others for rest, but has its own pay rules for hourly-paid workers. The holidays on a Sunday page explains them.

The 2027 long weekends

With only 7 holidays on a weekday, 2027 has no bridges costing a single leave day. The best ones cost two:

The patron saint changes the count in many towns. In Bologna, San Petronio falls on 4 October, the same day as St Francis, and since 2026 no longer adds a day off. In Pordenone, St Mark coincides with 25 April every year. Elsewhere the patron saint adds a holiday that can create a new bridge in 2027: search by town on the patron saint page.

Common questions

How many public holidays does Italy have in 2027?

13 national holidays in 2027, Easter Sunday included; without Easter, which is always a Sunday, 12 days. The patron saint's day comes on top, in that town only. Every Sunday is also a holiday for all purposes under Law 260 of 1949.

Which 2027 holidays fall on a Sunday?

25 April, Ferragosto and St Stephen's Day fall on a Sunday, besides Easter of course. 1 May and Christmas Day fall on a Saturday. Italy does not move them, so anyone working Monday to Friday loses them as a day off. For the civil holidays on a Sunday the law grants an extra day's pay.

What day is 2 June 2027?

2 June 2027, Republic Day, is a Wednesday. Two leave days before or after it give five days off in a row. 2 June has been a holiday again since 2001, after being moved to the first Sunday of June from 1977.

Are Ascension Day and Corpus Christi holidays in Italy?

No, not for civil purposes. Ascension, Corpus Christi, St Joseph and Saints Peter and Paul were removed from the list of holidays by Law 54 of 1977; the Church celebrates them on a Sunday or on the liturgical day, but people work. 29 June is still a holiday in Rome only, as the city's patron saints' day.
