Editorial policy and corrections

Book your leave around a holiday that does not exist and you either find the office open or waste a leave day. This page explains where every date comes from and what happens when something is wrong.

Order of sources

  1. Acts and decrees as in force, on Normattiva and in the Gazzetta Ufficiale: Law 260/1949, Law 54/1977, Presidential Decree 792/1985, Law 336/2000, Law 151/2025, Legislative Decree 66/2003, Directive 2000/84/EC;
  2. Town documents for patron saints: the town charter or the town's own website, with the date we read them;
  3. Ministry documents: the summary of regional school calendars published by the Ministry of Education and Merit;
  4. Computation rules: Gauss's Easter formula and ISO 8601 week numbering.

Calendar sites, travel agencies, online encyclopaedias and newspaper articles are not a source for a holiday or a patron saint. A town with no source of its own is not published.

Computed, not copied

No date on this site is typed by hand. An engine derives each holiday from its rule (fixed day, offset from Easter, year it took effect). Automated tests compare Easter with a second, independent algorithm over a thousand years, count each year's holidays and check the planner on every change.

Review cycle

A full review at least every 12 months and after every law that touches public holidays. A new holiday is added only once it is published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale.

Handling errors

  1. Check against the source.
  2. Fix the rule or data and add a test.
  3. New date on every page affected.
