In 2027 Easter falls on Sunday 28 March and Pasquetta, Easter Monday, on Monday 29 March. It is an early Easter: the earliest possible date is 22 March, the latest 25 April. The rule set by the Council of Nicaea in 325 is the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, with the equinox fixed by convention on 21 March and a moon computed from tables rather than the astronomical one. In 2026 Easter was on 5 April, in 2028 it will be on 16 April. By law only Easter Monday is a holiday, since Sunday already is one. In 2027 Easter night coincides with the switch to summer time: you sleep an hour less. Schools close in almost every region from 25 March to 30 March. Easter Monday and 25 April, which falls on a Sunday in 2027, are four weeks apart.

How Easter is worked out
The date comes from an algorithm, not from looking at the sky. The tool uses Gauss's method, which with a few divisions derives from the year its place in the 19-year lunar cycle, the leap-year correction and the distance to Sunday; the steps appear under the result. As a check, each date is compared with Meeus's algorithm and with the tables published by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, Germany's national metrology institute.
Other dates hang on Easter: Carnival ends 47 days earlier, on Shrove Tuesday, and Pentecost comes 49 days later. Ascension and Corpus Christi, which also depend on it, have not been holidays in Italy since 1977. Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar and often celebrate on another date.
Easter Monday can coincide with 25 April only when Easter falls on 24 April: it happened in 2011 and will happen again in 2095. The two holidays then count as a single rest day.
