The patron saint of Torino is San Giovanni Battista, celebrated on 24 June: the municipality states it on its own website, which we read on 28 October 2026. In Turin St John comes three weeks after 2 June. In 2027 it falls on a Thursday: taking Friday 25 off gives four days in a row, Thursday to Sunday. With the patron saint, someone working in Torino Monday to Friday has 253 working days in 2027, against 254 without. St John the Baptist has been Turin’s patron saint for centuries, and his feast opens the city’s summer. June is therefore a short month for people working in the city: besides 2 June there is the 24th, and in 2027 the month’s working days drop to 20.

The patron saint's day in Torino

Turin shares its patron saint with other cities: St John the Baptist is celebrated on 24 June in Busto Arsizio, Cesena, Firenze, Genova and Monza too. For anyone working in Turin and living in a nearby town, the day off depends on the workplace, not on where you live. In June the patron saint adds to 2 June: it is one of the months with the fewest working days for people working in the city.

The farò in Piazza Castello and fireworks on the Po

On the evening of 23 June the farò, a large bonfire that opens the feast, is lit in Piazza Castello; on the evening of the 24th fireworks over the Po close the day. Turin Cathedral is dedicated to St John the Baptist. For the working calendar 24 June matters differently each year: in 2026 it is a Wednesday, mid-week, and a bridge takes two leave days; in 2028 it falls on a Saturday and gives no extra day. People working in the surrounding towns, such as Moncalieri, Collegno or Rivoli, follow their own town’s patron saint, not Turin’s.
